PCS is a non-profit organization that has served the Greater Akron community since 1963. Through the years, we have been recognized as a strong advocate of children, youth, families, and older adults, continually exploring innovative ways of providing professional therapeutic and community support services.
School-Based Therapy, PCS’ largest endeavor, began in 1998 with Akron Public Schools and has since joined efforts with other local school districts to provide therapy to the children in Northeast Ohio.
Outpatient Services are provided for people of all ages at our Barbara M. Vassel Comprehensive Care Center at 147 Park St. in Akron.
The Aging Services Program offers mental health services for older adults and their families through senior living communities, nursing facilities, and other organizations.

With our mission to provide mental health and addiction services that support the individual, their family, and the community as they try to understand and solve difficult issues in their lives, PCS operates under the Ohio Department of Mental Health & Addiction Services and is an accredited COA (Council on Accreditation) mental health agency. As a non-profit agency, we are certified to provide behavioral health counseling and therapy, mental health assessments, medication management, and community psychiatric supportive treatment (CPST).
PCS has successfully served many clients for over 40 years, and this venture continues to grow. In 1998, we provided services to approximately 175 clients with a clinical staff of seven. Today, we are actively serving nearly 4,000 clients. Of our 140 employees, over 100 serve as direct line staff, providing therapy and community psychiatric supportive treatment.
