About Us

Founded in 1963, The Pastoral Counseling Service of Summit County, Inc. (PCS) has evolved throughout the years. Starting as a faith-based organization to help disadvantaged children in Akron, OH, PCS now serves adults, children and families throughout greater Summit County. With its mission to provide counseling, direction and guidance to persons who are trying to understand and solve difficult decisions in their lives, PCS operates under the Ohio Department of Mental Health and is an accredited COA (Council on Accreditation) mental health agency. As a non-profit agency, we are certified to provide diagnostic assessments, counseling/psychotherapy, med/somatic services, and community psychiatric support treatment.

The Pastoral Counseling Service of Summit County has long-standing collaborations with area partners. Since 1998, PCS has joined efforts with Akron Public Schools to offer School-Based Therapy to the children in Akron, OH. Due to the success of this partnership, other collaborations with Woodridge Local Schools, Barberton City Schools, Imagine Alternative Schools, and Believe to Achieve Academy (Canton, OH) have made our School-Based Program our largest endeavor.   Other services being offered include outpatient counseling for adults, children and families, and med/somatic services for adults and children.

PCS has successfully served many clients for over 40 years, and this venture continues to grow. In 1998, we provided services to approximately 175 clients with a clinical staff of seven. Today, we are actively serving nearly 2,500 clients. Of our nearly 140 employees, over 100 serve as direct line staff, providing therapy and community psychiatric supportive treatment.
